BJCP 2004 - American Brown Ale
Recipe Notes: 3.3 lbs. light malt extract syrup (60 minutes)
3.3 lbs. amber malt extract syrup (60 minutes)
1-1/4 lbs. cracked grain (1/4 dark crystal, 1/4 chocolate, 1/4 black patent)
(In grain sock until water starts to boil; then discard)
1 oz. Styrian Goldings hop pellets (a. a. 3.8) - (60 minutes)
1 oz. Willamette hop pellets (a. a. 5.0 ) - (1/2 last 20 minutes; 1/2 last 1 minute)
1 cup dark brown sugar (last 45 minutes)
3 teaspoons of pure vanilla extract (at bottling time)
11.5 grams Edme active dried yeast
1 teaspoon of Irish Moss (last 15 minutes of boil)
3/4 cup of corn sugar dissolved in 1 cup of water at bottling time
*1-1/2 gallons of water to start the boil
*3 gallons of water for the fermenter
*Top off the fermenter to 5 gallons with water
